How Important is Temperature When Filtering Industrial Flue Gases?

Time of Release : 2024-06-14

In the process of industrial flue gas filtration, temperature is one of the important factors affecting the operating efficiency of the flue gas filtration system.

Q: So, here comes the question! How will temperature changes affect the operation of the filtration system?

Theoretically, changes in temperature will directly affect the stability of filter media fibers, thereby changing the utilization efficiency and service life of the filter materials and affecting the operation of the filtering equipment.

The temperature is too high? No!

In actual operation, the higher the operating temperature of the dust removal equipment, the faster the chemical reaction rate. High temperature operating conditions can easily damage filter materials that are sensitive to hydrolysis, oxidation or other chemical reactions, greatly shortening their service life.

Not only that, once the operating temperature exceeds the tolerance range of the filter bags in the dust removal equipment, it may cause the filter bag fibers to be damaged, shrink significantly, reduce strength, become hard and brittle, and even burn holes on the surface of the filter bags, causing them to completely fail.

The temperature is too low? No!

The temperature of the dust removal equipment must always be kept above the dew point!

If the temperature is below the dew point, the water vapor in the flue gas will condense and form small water droplets on the surface of the filter material. These small water droplets absorb the dirty flue gas and produce a moist, sticky powder layer.

The moist and sticky powder cake layer not only greatly reduces the cleaning effect, but also causes high pressure difference during equipment operation.

When the temperature is lower than the dew point, corrosive acid dew may also be generated, which will corrode the filter material itself, the supporting cage frame and the dust removal equipment.

Tell you secretly

Normally, we recommend that the operating temperature of the dust removal equipment be 25°C higher than the dew point temperature.

For example!

In actual application, Yuanchen Envirotec once received such a feedback case: a bag dust removal system in the factory of one of our important customers had major problems during operation.

The factory purchased Yuanchen PI filter bags with excellent heat resistance for the cement kiln tail, but after only 11 months of use, serious shrinkage problems occurred. The filter bags could no longer be used, resulting in huge losses.

After receiving the news, Leading-Filter immediately dispatched experienced application engineers to the site for an on-site investigation. At the same time, it asked the company's quality inspection department to retrieve all production parameters of the product before it left the factory for careful verification.

Surprisingly, there was nothing abnormal in the production parameters retrieved by the quality inspection department, and all products were qualified when they left the Leading-Filter factory.

Now, all the pressure is focused on the application engineer who rushed to the scene. Can he successfully investigate the cause?

After arriving at the factory, the application engineer first went to the central control room to collect operating data. However, the manufacturer only retained complete data for the most recent month out of 11 months of operation, and the data showed no abnormalities.

Data shows that the temperature in the filtration equipment is 140°C in most cases, the highest temperature measured is 150°C, and the lowest temperature is only 120°C. However, the Yuanchen PI filter bags used in this plant can withstand temperatures up to 250°C, which is much higher than the current operating temperature.

The only strange thing is that the temperature displayed at the outlet of the filtration equipment is about 40°C higher than the temperature recorded internally, and the pressure difference is displayed as 1800-3900 Pa.

The on-site operator could not explain this phenomenon and thought that once the operating temperature was higher than 150°C, the temperature-control sprayer in the equipment would automatically turn on to cool down the machine. However, through the data from last month, we found that the sprayer in the equipment was out of service in most cases.

The careful engineer fed back these situations to the company and brought back three filter bag samples from the site for experimental testing. The three samples were collected from the factory's brand new, 7-month-old, and 11-month-old filter bags.

After experimental testing, we were shocked to find that these filter bags had been subjected to ultra-high temperature operations exceeding 310°C in the past!

Due to problems with the on-site dust collector temperature control system, the temperature measured inside the filtration system was lower than the actual temperature, and the sprayer used for cooling in the system was never running, causing this failure.

At this point, all 4,600 filter bags that were supposed to last for three years had to be replaced after just 11 months.

It can be seen that temperature plays a key role in the operation of industrial flue gas filtration equipment!

Maintaining a reasonable operating temperature and reducing large temperature fluctuations can not only improve the utilization efficiency of industrial flue gas filtration materials, but also extend the service life of dust removal equipment, thereby ensuring long-term and stable operation of the filtration equipment.
